How do I unlock my licence key?
How you release and re-apply a licence depends on which version of UPDD you are running.
If you are using newer software (7.1.228 upwards)
To release the licence from a computer you still have, go to the UPDD menu bar / system tray icon and select Unregister. This makes the licence available for use elsewhere.
To apply it to another computer, go to the UPDD menu bar / system tray icon, select Register, then choose "Enter a licence key" and paste in your licence key.
Otherwise
Download the UPDD Licence tool and run it on the computer concerned. It will unregister the licence, or register it if you enter your licence key when it asks.
Earlier versions cannot register or unregister themselves against the current licensing service and will report a failure however many times it is tried, so please use the tool rather than the UPDD menu on those.
If you are moving the licence, uninstall UPDD from the old computer
Releasing the licence frees the seat, but a UPDD left installed on that computer can register itself again and take the seat back. If you have finished with the old machine, uninstall UPDD from it once the licence has been released.
What if the computer is no longer available?
Use the licence manager, whichever version you are running. Enter the email address the licences were purchased under and we will email you a link. From there you can see which computer each seat is registered to, and release the one you no longer have.
How many times can I reset my licence key?
By default, you can unlock and reuse a licence 4 times in any 12-month period. This can be increased if required — contact Touch-Base to discuss your requirements.
What if my licence key has expired?
Licence keys allow for lifetime usage of the software, but not lifetime support and upgrades. If the licence key maintenance period has expired and you use the key with software released after the expiry date, you will see a "Licence key failure" or "Licence Key Expired" message. In this situation, you either need to install the original software you purchased or purchase a maintenance extension.
